CASSTOWN — Miami East schools received an unfortunate surprise Thursday morning when they learned that their athletic field had been vandalized.
“They damaged a gate to the football field located on Troy-Urbana Road,” High School Principal Todd Gentis said in an email. As for the cost to the district to fix the vandalism, Gentis said, “We have contacted a company regarding fixing the fence and gate. We have no estimates yet.”
The alleged vandals also forced their way into the concession stand at the athletic field.
“We replaced a door knob to the concession stand as it was destroyed as they gained entry to the concession stand by damaging the door knob,” Gentis said. “No further damage was done inside the concession area besides a lock to a refrigerator was broken.”
Gentis added that the school will also be meeting with the music boosters to see if anything is missing from the concession stand.
It is unknown why the alleged vandals decided to damage property at the athletic field.
“At this time we have no motive,” Gentis said.
Gentis said that no further information is available at this time.
The school filed a report with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office can be contacted at (937) 440-3965. Tips can be submitted on their website at www.miamicountysheriff.org/contact-us-1/tips.
