PIQUA — The Piqua High School Show Choir, The Company, will present its annual “Just Us” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, in the Hartzell Center for the Performing Arts at PHS. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The show choir will perform the current award-winning show, “Shut Up and Do It!” and numbers from past shows.
“That is the 2015-16 competition show that we competed with all season long,” Director of Choirs Tom Westfall said. “We won the Grand Championship at Wapak in April with that show.”
The show choir’s April 9 victory at the Wapakoneta Music and More Invitational was their first Grand Champion win in four years.
Numbers in “Shut Up and Do It!” include “Something Big,” “This War,” and the current pop radio hit “Shut Up and Dance with Me” by Walk the Moon.
“Then it goes into a Pentatonix song, then the closer is a medley, a mash-up of Katie Perry’s ‘This is How We Do” and Montell Jordan’s ‘This is How We Do It,” Westfall said.
Senior members Rachel Wiles, Kenzie Weller, Tanner McKinney, Taurean Collier, Wade Wenrick, Riley Branson, Tyler Lavy, TJ Iddings, Noah Magill and Jon Gerlach will be performing solos in Senior Spotlights.
“Each senior who’s performing chooses their own song,” Westfall explained. “Each kid gets a chance to showcase their specific talents. So we’ll have singers, dancers and instrumentalists.”
This year, there will be a special presentation by “The Men’s Company,” who will be dancing to “Run Away Baby.”
In addition, The Company combo, Audio Hype, conducted by Mitch Mahaney will perform two numbers from its repertoire.
“They will be doing their own material as well as the show choir songs, “Westfall said, “So they will have some featured time as well.”
Tickets for the “Just Us” concert will only be available at the door the night of the event. Prices are $8 general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.
