By Will E Sanders Staff Writer
On Wednesday, I read the column penned by Sports Editor Rob Kiser, an avid Cleveland Browns fan who I have participated in a Bengals versus Brown bet with for the last two years (and needless to say I won both times and will continue to well into the future).
In this column, Kiser took pot shots at not only Bengal wide receivers Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens, but also at me.
This, of course, did not upset me, as I consider being mentioned in the same column as those two future hall-of-famers as a compliment, mostly because I'm just as big a narcissist as that dynamic duo.
Kiser offered me a chance to retort, and I will.
But first, I wanted to take this opportunity to apologize to Kiser's mother, who - on the same day Kiser's column ran - I unintentionally cut in line in front of at my great uncle's funeral.
And, I really wish I could tell you here that this really didn't happen, but apparently it did.
If Kiser's mother is reading this, allow me to officially apologize for my behavior.
Kiser claims the addition of Terrell Owens (and his ego) to the Cincinnati locker room, mixed with the already well-established ego of legendary wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, will spell doom for the Bengals this year.
Last year, it should be noted, when the Bengals did not have T.O., Ochocinco and company were the AFC North champions.
And you expect me to believe that with the addition of T.O. even greater things aren't possible? Because of what, egos?
Egos don't lose games.
Bad players do - and in Cleveland, there's no short supply.
If I am to believe that egos hurt teams, then I am to also believe that the Miami Heat won't win a single game next season.
Oh yeah, even LeBron James left Cleveland for greener pastures.
Why? He, like the three Browns fans reading this, wants to win a championship.
Nobody can make an argument that T.O. or Ochocinco aren't some of the best at what they do.
Why do you think everyone is talking about it? And it goes without saying that if T.O. would have signed with Cleveland, Kiser would already have the jersey ordered off the Internet.
Trust me, if T.O.'s ego wasn't worth it, NFL teams wouldn't put up with him. Fact is, he produces, and he will this year, too.
Until recently, I disliked T.O. the same way I hate USC football - hated him, and them, for no other reason than they are good at what they do.
Cleveland fans, trust me, I don't blame you for disliking T.O. for the same reason.
That's the indiscriminate love/hate relationship of football. It's why I love it so much.
Because no other activity in the world has ever allowed me to force Kiser to wear a Bengals hat for an entire week and a Bengals jersey for one day over the last two years when he lost our bet.
I look to three-peat this year, too, which leaves Kiser with a big decision of what jersey he wants to wear when he yet again loses.
Will it be Ochocinco or will it be Owens?
I know, Rob, it's almost TO big of a decision to make.
