MIAMI COUNTY — A Bradford woman is raising funds to help support accessibility and transportation to and from doctor appointments for her daughter, who inherited a rare bone disease.

Kaytlin Greer, 12, inherited Camurati–Engelmann disease (CED) from her mother, Riki Greer, who is raising Kaytlin as a single parent. CED causes increased bone density — particularly affecting the long bones of the arms and legs — which can lead to pain, muscle weakness, and other issues with the muscular and skeletal systems, such abnormal curvature of the spine and joint deformities.

Kaytlin is now in a wheelchair due to the progression of her disease.

“She’s been a fighter. She’s been in physical therapy since she was two,” said Riki Greer, who suffers from pain and back problems related to the disease. Greer noted that her daughter’s CED is more progressive than her own. “Right now, the circumstances have changed tremendously,” Greer said.

They recently found out that neither of Kaytlin’s hip sockets were fully formed, so Kaytlin has to undergo surgery. She had her first surgery in April.

Greer, Kaytlin, and Greer’s other daughter Peyton, 9, are also relocating with the hopes of saving money and providing more accessiblity for Kaytlin.

“We have to move out of our house in Bradford,” Greer said.

The Greer family has already received an outpouring of support from the community, for which Greer is very thankful.

“Everyone has been so gracious to us,” Greer said. “We feel so blessed.”

In addition to donations received, Greer said she was grateful for the prayers and kind thoughts from the community.

Greer is continuing to raise funds for her daughter’s doctor appointments, particularly driving to and from the appointments at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati.

“My van is not handicapped-accessible,” she said.
