Mills/Bogart Brothers and Betty Hemmert scholarship winners announced

PIQUA - Emily Wildenhaus and Aaron VanPelt have been named the 2014 recipients of the Mills/Bogart Brothers Scholarship and the Betty Hemmert Scholarship.

The Mills/Bogart Brothers scholarship was established to honor two sets of brothers that have established themselves in the field of vocal performance. The scholarship is presented by the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce to Piqua residents who are pursuing a degree in music, music education or the performing arts at an accredited college, music school or other post-high school institution.

The Betty Hemmert Scholarship was established to honor Hemmert’s long time dedication as a vocal music educator in Piqua. It benefits students from both Lehman Catholic and Piqua high schools who are currently attending or will be attending an accredited college, music school or other post high school institution. The student must show that he or she will be, or is pursuing music, music education or the performing arts field of study.

Aaron Van Pelt is the recipient of a $2,000 Mills/Bogart Brothers Scholarship. Aaron will be a junior at Wright State University in the fall and is studying to be a Music educator. Aaron was the most improved trumpet player at Wright State for the 2013-2014 school year. In his first year at WSU, he performed in two solo trumpet recitals, and secured a position in the most exclusive performing ensemble on campus … The WSU Wind Symphony. He also performed as a member of the WSU Trumpet Ensemble at the Ohio International Guild Conference. Aaron is the son of Alan and Reba VanPelt.

Emily Wildenhaus is the recipient of a $1000 Mills/Bogart Brothers Scholarship and a $1,000 Betty Hemmert Scholarship. Emily graduated from Lehman Catholic High School in May of 2013. Emily was a member of the National Honor Society and Piqua Top 100. Emily auditioned and became a member of the only co-ed a Cappella group on their campus, the Seahawkappellas. They performed at various places both on camps and off. In January of 2014, she traveled to Austria with eight other students and her choir director to take part in the Laudate Dominum Conference in St. Polten. Emily is the daughter of Donna and John Wildenhaus.
