PIQUA — The Piqua Civic Band continues its summer concert season at 7 p.m. July 17 at Hance Pavilion under the direction of guest conductor JR Price.
This week’s concert is titled “The Music of John Williams” and features guest clarinet vocalist Chelsea Whirledge. Selections will include Soaring with John Williams, Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite March, I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables, Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, The Raiders March, Jurassic Park, God Bless America, plus marches by John Philip Sousa and much more.
Price is the orchestra and jazz director for Greenville City Schools. His orchestras and jazz groups have performed in Chicago, St. Louis, and several times in Orlando, Fla. Currently Price and Whirledge are working on a project to combine the Jazz Scene and Wavaires at Greenville High School for a performance trip to Walt Disney World and Hard Rock Café at Universal Studios Orlando. Price also is the conductor of the Greenville Municipal Concert Band. This group performs most Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the Marling Band Shell in the Greenville City Park. Price resides in Greenville with his wife Kathi. He is the proud father of Bryant, Brock, Eric and Emma and his granddaughter, Lillian.
Whirledge is a 2007 graduate of Greenville High School and a 2011 graduate of Ball State University. While at Ball State, she was a member of Indiana’s Official Goodwill Ambassadors, The Ball State University Singers. Currently, she is getting ready to begin her second year as the vocal music director at Greenville Senior High School, where she directs five choral ensembles and teaches music theory.
