COVINGTON — A farm tractor crash on Klinger Road, north of Covington, claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl and sent four other to area hospitals on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a tractor, driven by Tammy Burns, 43, of Covington, that was pulling a box trailer, overturned in the 8500 block of Klinger Road. The tractor pinned Burns and two children underneath.

Covington Fire and Rescue, along with Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to remove Burns within about 15 minutes. Other victims include Burns’ daughter Michelle, 14, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Another daughter, Lisa Warner, 20, along with Warner’s son Darrin, 1 1/2, and her daughter Kelly, age 1 month, also were injured.

Two CareFlight helicopters were called to remove the victims for treatment, while the remaining victims were taken to Upper Valley Medical Center near Troy.

Lisa Warner was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, but was not listed as a patient on Thursday, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Both Darrin Warner and Kelly Warner were listed in fair condition at Children’s Medical Center, Dayton, on Thursday. Tammy Burns also was no longer listed as a patient at Upper Valley Medical Center as of Thursday afternoon.

A crash reconstruction team was called in to investigate the crash. Lt. Tom Wheeler of the Miami County Sheriff’s department said that Burns lost control of the tractor for reasons that are still being determined.

The crash remains under investigation.
