TROY – The Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities, known as Riverside to most residents, officially has a new leader. On Jan. 1, Brian Green took over as superintendent of Riverside of Miami County after the recent retirement of previous superintendent, Karen Mayer.
Green has worked at Riverside since January 2000, with responsibilities in such areas as information technology, facilities, adult day services and early intervention. Most recently he served as assistant superintendent, overseeing 10 of the organization’s 15 departments.
Aside from his long-term service with the organization, Green brings a unique perspective to his position, as he has a son with autism who is involved in Riverside’s programs.
“I’m excited about Brian becoming superintendent and proud of the decision the Riverside of Miami County Board of DD made,” said Steve Baker, president of the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities. “Brian had the opportunity to serve under Karen Mayer as assistant superintendent for about two years. He had a great mentor. We expect a lot of good from Brian’s leadership, as his work experience and personal connection to the organization will ensure the continuity of outstanding services for citizens with developmental disabilities in Miami County.”
Green is a graduate of Tippecanoe High School and has a bachelor’s and a MBA from Bluffton University. Before joining Riverside, Green owned an information technology services business in Troy for several years. He also formerly served as a member of the Tipp City Police Department and the U.S. Army.
Green and his wife live in Troy and have three children.
The mission of the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities is to empower children and adults with developmental disabilities to live, work and play as full members of the Miami County community. The organization strives to achieve this through services such as adult day services, pre-school and early intervention, physical and occupational therapies, recreation activities, Special Olympics, community housing, community employment, and other valuable services.
